New Paintings by Lori Dell

Water. All life inherently knows its rhythm, cadence and power. It nurtures and sustains. In her most recent series, Toronto artist Lori Dell creates and captures water’s sublime beauty with the fluidity of paint. Steered by a skillful hand, the elastic qualities of her medium are uncompromised, retaining the sense of immediacy and unpredictability like water itself. Broad strokes of colour immerse each work in an undiluted palette of opulent blues, verdant greens and iridescent bursts of pink and orange – seducing the viewer with their siren song. Inspired by the watery landscape that surrounds her home on the Toronto Islands, she draws from the summer’s ephemeral flora and fauna.

Lori Dell is a visual artist who is best known for her emotionally-charged abstractions. Her work engages with and reinvents broad concepts of portraiture, landscapes, and architecture. Drawing from the maturity of a 20 year career, Dell produces large works with fluency of colour and material that layer, blend and reinterpret imagery. Having exhibited throughout Canada and the U.S. over the last two decades, her signature works can be found in both private and public collections. Lori has also garnered recognition for her work in illustration and stage design for film, dance and theatre. Lori Dell lives and works in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
