WATER

New Paintings by Lori Dell

OPENING NIGHT

Paint Cabin Art & Espresso Bar

Water. All life inherently knows its rhythm, cadence and power. It nurtures and sustains. In her most recent series, Toronto artist Lori Dell creates and captures water’s sublime beauty with the fluidity of paint. Steered by a skillful hand, the elastic qualities of her medium are uncompromised, retaining the sense of immediacy and unpredictability like water itself. Broad strokes of colour immerse each work in an undiluted palette of opulent blues, verdant greens and iridescent bursts of pink and orange – seducing the viewer with their siren song. Inspired by the watery landscape that surrounds her home on the Toronto Islands, she draws from the summer’s ephemeral flora and fauna.

Lori Dell is a visual artist who is best known for her emotionally-charged abstractions. Her work engages with and reinvents broad concepts of portraiture, landscapes, and architecture. Drawing from the maturity of a 20 year career, Dell produces large works with fluency of colour and material that layer, blend and reinterpret imagery. Having exhibited throughout Canada and the U.S. over the last two decades, her signature works can be found in both private and public collections. Lori has also garnered recognition for her work in illustration and stage design for film, dance and theatre. Lori Dell lives and works in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

SPIRIT PAINTINGS

Friday April 25th, 6 – 9 PM – Opening Night
Saturday April 26th, 12 – 4 PM
81 Wychwood Park, Toronto

Exploring the nature of spirituality through light and colour, Toronto-based artist Lori Dell presents new works in a spring exhibition, generously hosted by Sarah & Marc Giacomelli in their beautiful Wychwood Park heritage home.  Spirit Paintings are representative of the artist’s own personal conversation with colour and form.  Drawing from the maturity of a 20 year career, Dell allows the materiality of her paint to strike the balance between movement and expression, light versus dark. As Dell’s Spirit Paintings wrestle with their own concepts of purity and perception, viewers are granted moments of quiet contemplation amid the turmoil.

With Dell’s work often recognized for being nurtured by nature, her Spirit Paintings exhibition is nicely paired with the surrounding private grounds of Wychwood Park.  This salon-style show will be exhibited in the original studio of Canadian artist George Reid. Our special thanks goes out to Sarah & Marc Giacomelli for inviting us into their home.

Lori Dell is a visual artist who is best known for her emotionally-charged abstractions of traditional subject matter. Her work engages with and reinterprets ideas of portraiture, landscape painting, and architecture. Drawing inspiration from her own life experiences, Dell often produces large concept works with skillful execution of colour and material often described as bold, spiritual, and meditative. Having exhibited her works in galleries throughout Toronto and New York over the last two decades, her portraiture and other works can be found in both private and public collections throughout the city. Lori has also garnered recognition for illustration and set and costume design. Lori Dell lives and works in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
